Dylan Carlos (fiddle), Céin Sweeney (flute), and John McCartin (guitar) hail respectively from Roscommon, Cavan, and Leitrim.
Dylan Carlos, influenced by the vibrant musical traditions of his family in Roscommon, is a past All-Ireland fiddle champion. Céin Sweeney, from Killeshandra, County Cavan, claimed the All-Ireland Senior Flute title in 2015. John McCartin, a native of Newtowngore, County Leitrim, holds a First Class Honours Master’s degree in Traditional Music Performance and is renowned for his sensitive and dynamic guitar accompaniment.
Their 2019 debut album,Carlos Sweeney McCartin, was met with critical acclaim and is considered a modern classic in traditional music circles. The album showcases a collection of jigs and reels that reflect the authentic sound of Irish sessions, particularly from the northwest region. The trio’s energetic and unfiltered approach to traditional tunes has resonated deeply with audiences and fellow musicians alike.
Building on the success of their debut, the trio released their second album, The One After It, in 2024. This follow-up continues their commitment to pure-drop traditional music, featuring well-chosen tunes executed with a shared vision and exceptional musicianship. The album has been lauded as a must-have for traditional music enthusiasts and solidifies their status as leading figures in the genre.
