Ken Haddock Band plus very special guests…
Ken Haddock has been a mainstay of the Belfast Music scene for 30 years at the Belfast Empire, starting in bands playing the Empire Bar back in the early 90s, and continuing as a solo performer when the music hall opened in 1995. He joined the roster of our regular weekly program around 1997/1998. This originally solo slot on a Sunday night soon became a band slot, with Ken gathering a who’s who of the local scene to create a Sunday night Superband. They evolved, changed, added one-off guests, and grew this night into one of the most successful residencies in the country. Ken Haddock’s Sunday Supper Club is famous in Belfast as the place to enjoy a superb live band on a Sunday night. Ken remained at the helm for the duration of this tenure, their enduring demand a testament to their quality. There was a continued residency right up until the lockdown of March 2020 when the covid-19 pandemic shut down the country, but of course immediately resumed as soon as it became possible again and it still goes strong.
The Supper Club residency is only a part of Ken Haddock’s creative output. He launched solo albums with us on a couple of occasions also, as well as supporting and co-headlining slots with some of the world-renowned stars to have graced our stage. He joined Nanci Griffith for ‘In The Round’ show as part of the Belfast-Nashville songwriters Festival, to huge acclaim from the singer herself. He has been a leading player in the East Belfast Festival which celebrates musical strength from that part of the city, including luminaries such as Van Morrison.
This very special night will see Ken and his band including Peter McKinney, Iggy Ward, Johnny McCullough and Adam Booth joined by a few very special guests. Confirmed at the time of writing are Ronnie Greer, Paul Harden and Matt McGinn, and we hope to add some more to that list as we get nearer.
It’s a celebration of Ken Haddock’s contribution to the local music scene, and of course to the Belfast Empire.
